Global Indian Association (GIA) is an international platform for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) around the world and returned NRIs to unite together to present share and solve the issues related to migration and work, welfare activities, co-ordination with Government of India and the Embassies of the respective countries in India. On a temporary basis a 15 member ‘Global Ad-hoc Committee’ based in Delhi is campaigning and forming ‘GIA Regional Chapters’ in different countries. After completing the ‘Regional Chapters’ as a further step ‘GIA National Committees’ will be formed country wise before March 2012. Finally, the ‘Global Committee of GIA’ will be democratically elected from the representatives of National Committees in ‘GIA International Convention’ to be held at New Delhi on 14th and 15th August 2012. At present, GIA is functioning from a rented office in Delhi, but negotiations are going on with Government of Delhi to provide land for GIA to construct a permanent Headquarters. As GIA is an International body expecting wider representation of Indians around the world, it is the need of the hour to have a well equipped infrastructure and administrative set up at the GIA Headquarters to handle various departments of GIA assisted by a considerable number of experts. The registration for GIA under Societies Registration Act 1860 of Govt. of India is progressing. The membership will be opened just after the registration formalities completed and the registration certificate is obtained. As of now, it is decided by the Ad-hoc committee that the ‘GIA Citizen Membership’ will be restricted to Rs.1000 for one year. The membership will be available online after the completion of registration of GIA with Govt. of India. The income generated through the membership fee will be solely used for administrative costs at the GIA headquarters in New Delhi and other recurring expenses. We request you all to join GIA and unite all NRIs and returned NRIs to promote charity and welfare activities among Overseas Indians and Returned NRIs. AIMS & OBJECTIVES OF GIA
1. GIA will provide legal assistance for innocent prisoners in foreign jails and will extend help to the families of these hapless people. 2. GIA will act as a pressure group to speed up the welfare activities for NRIs initiated by Govt. of India through Indian Embassies and Consulates in all countries. 3. GIA will provide ‘Free Accidental Insurance Policy’ worth Rs.1 lakh for all GIA members as it will help ordinary person / family to face contingencies. 4. ‘GIA Emergency Relief Fund’ for the GIA members in distress, applying conditions. 5. 24 hours GIA helpline for NRIs will operate from the headquarters of GIA 6. GIA will campaign for the legalization of polling centres for General Elections in India under the supervision of Indian Embassies / Consulates at the respective countries of NRIs.
7. GIA will engage in prospective collaborations with the existing Indian organisations in different countries to streamline the welfare activities for NRIs of relevant countries.
8. GIA Online Radio and Television (24 hours). It will work not only as a means of entertainment but as a medium to present even ‘minute details’ of the activities of GIA Regional Chapters in different countries to get a wide range of reach and coverage among millions of Indians around the world. 9. Tie-up with Life Insurance Co-operation of India for GIA members to provide a secure saving and life even after returning to India. 10. GIA will open institutions of higher learning for candidates of NRIs & returned NRIs with GIA members as stake holders. 11. GIA will open coaching centers for medical, engineering, civil services and other competitive exams in all metropolitan cities in India. It will provide ample opportunities for brilliant students from NRI community. 12. GIA Regional Chapters in different countries will form different ‘Cells and Clubs’ under the assistance of GIA Global Committee to ensure the participation and contribution of different age groups and professional groups like Senior Citizen Club, Children Club, Youth Club, Women Club, IT Club, Media Club, Sports Club, Engineers Club, Doctors Club, Nurses Cell, Legal Grievances Cell etc. 13. GIA will operate ‘Job Placement and Matrimonial consultancy’ services wing at the headquarters of GIA. 14. GIA will initiate expansion of fund raising for the promotion of ‘GIA Charity Activities’ through the services of International Air Ticket booking, Hotel Booking, Travel & Tourism in India and production and distribution of Season Greeting Cards. 15. GIA will institute ‘Annual Excellency Awards’ for NRIs from different walks of life. 16. GIA International Film Award. It will be an initiative to honour best artists from the film world and introduce them to NRIs along with a fund raising programme for the activities undertaken by GIA. 17. GIA Awards for top 5 children of GIA members passing Class 10+2 Exam from each country. 18. GIA Regional Chapters will organize ‘Ideal Parenting’ Training Programme on a regularly basis. It is a training to equip the parents to garner knowledge to understand and adjust with the behavioural patterns of new generation, at the same time bringing up the children in an atmosphere where morality, culture and tradition are safeguarded. 19. GIA Regional Chapters will organize Counselling, Leadership and Personality Development Training Programmes for Indian students from time to time. 20. ‘GIA Inter Religious Fellowship Convention’ once in a year, will be organised by GIA Regional Chapter. Present time is witnessing the polarization on the basis of religion and unnecessary tensions are created as a consequence of it. Mainly youths are the victims of religious extremism. ‘GIA Inter Religious Fellowship Convention’ aims at providing an open platform for various religious leaders, common people and children to engage in healthy discussions, debates and know different religions closely and to love all above religious barriers. 21. GIA will promote Indian Tourism, Handicrafts, Handlooms, Ayurveda, Art & Culture through conducting regular exhibitions, fairs, events etc. all over the world.
22. GIA will encourage environmental life style and practices and promote environmental awareness programmes networking with various international environmental organizations like UNEP, IPCC, Green Peace International to protect the earth for future generations.
