Kerala Assembly Election 2011 – Campaign in Delhi
First time in the history of Kerala Assembly Election, a UDF Election Committee Office was opened at Ashram area in Delhi and Rajeev Joseph led election campaign for UDF candidates for Assembly Election 2011 even in Kerala bound Trains for 15 days. It was received as a innovative style of campaign not only by the leaders but also by the passengers in trains, most of them were voters in Kerala. Apart from traditional way of campaign, thousands of post cards requesting votes for UDF candidates were sent to Kerala by Delhi UDF Election Committee Office.
In the National capital, Delhi, South Indians constitute a major chunk of population and Malayalees have the predominance. Except for a short period congress party is in power both at centre and Delhi State and the residents of Delhi are witnessing the development activities implemented by the ruling Congress Governments from very close quarters. Congress South Indian Forum was groomed and have drawn impetus from such a development oriented congress culture and visions to see the political fortunes of congress party and the future of the home state Kerala in high development dimensions.
The present scenario, at national politics congress leaders from SouthIndia and especially from Kerala play pivotal roles in ministries, organisational and policy making bodies. To reap the fruits at right time, i.e. to bring the state to top of the development graph a Congress Government was essential, relevant and need of the hour in Kerala. To see this vision materialised, Congress South Indian Forum initiated ‘Vote for UDF, Vote for Development’ campaign with clear objectives of sending maximum number of Malayalees residing in North India with voting rights in Kerala to vote for UDF showcasing developmental initiatives of the Central Government implemented by congress party and sensitizing them to vote for Congress led UDF in Kerala. To co-ordinate the election campaign activities, an election committee office in Delhi, first time of its kind outside Kerala was in function for one month preceding the election. Even though the election verdict gave slender margin to the UDF, Congress south Indian forum is optimistic about the transformational development initiatives would be undertaken by the UDF Government to eradicate poverty and bring economic sustainability. Unemployment is rampant in Kerala and that is the reason for large scale migration from Kerala to metropolitan cities in India and other countries for job search. Congress South Indian Forum firmly believes that only UDF Government can bring an atmosphere for the creation of job opportunities in Kerala providing favourable investment opportunities for both public and private players and instil a new hope for millions of educated youth in Kerala. Congress South Indian Forum considers that the strategies formulated and implemented by them to get votes from the Keralites in North India in favour of UDF is a significant step to be counted.
